Social work support at court
Support and guidance when attending court
We offer social work support in Airdrie, Hamilton and Lanark Sheriff Courts. Our team is based in each court to help you on the day, carry out assessments and give the court the information it needs to make decisions. If you are in custody, we can speak with you before your appearance.
Support when you attend court
Our court social work team is available to anyone attending court. We can:
- explain what to expect
- offer advice, guidance and emotional support
- speak with your family or support network if needed
- complete assessments and provide reports when the court asks for them
If you are held in custody, we will meet with you to discuss your circumstances and any help you may need.
Bail supervision
Bail supervision offers an alternative to being held on remand. It aims to help you follow your bail conditions, with a focus on your needs and risks within the community.
Social work staff from our Lanarkshire Court Service complete the Bail Supervision assessments for Court and supervise orders imposed. For young people aged 16-25 years old, Bail Supervision Orders are managed by our Young Persons Service (16-18) and our Whole Systems Approach Team (18-25)
What to expect if you are on bail supervision
If the court imposes a bail supervision Order:
- you will meet with social work staff regularly
- we will work with you on the agreed action plan
- we can refer you to services that support your health, housing, wellbeing or other needs
- we will review your plan regularly to make sure it continues to help you
Our approach is based on building trust, supporting your welfare and helping you make positive changes.
