Diversion from prosecution

Support as an alternative to prosecution

If you have been referred to us by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), you may be able to take part in diversion from prosecution. This gives you the chance to address the issues linked to your offending behaviour and avoid going through the court process. We work with you to agree a personal plan and support you to make positive changes.

How Diversion works

When we receive your referral, we meet with you to understand your situation and what support you may need. Together, we create an action plan that focuses on the changes you want to make.
Most people take part in diversion for around three to six months. During this time, there is an expectation you will have regular contact with us and associated services so we can help you follow your plan and stay on track.

Support for alcohol or drug concerns

If you take part in diversion and you are also experiencing difficulties with alcohol or drug use, we can refer you to specialist support from Sacro. This gives you extra help from trained staff who understand the challenges you may be facing.

Sacro Support

Sacro provide one‑to‑one support based on your needs and goals. They can help you:

  • build structure and confidence
  • access services such as health, housing or treatment
  • stay engaged with your diversion plan
  • improve your wellbeing
  • reduce feelings of isolation
  • lower the risk of reoffending

Your Sacro support worker would work alongside you, listen to what you want to achieve and support you to take the steps needed to get there.
