Roads permits and permissions
All road work activity requires permission from the council under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 or New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (Transport Scotland Act 2005).
If you are doing any of the following, you must apply for the appropriate permit.
Typical activity
- occupy temporarily part of the public road to place street furniture
- deposit builders skip
- excavate the road
- excavate the road involving apparatus
- lower the kerb
- occupy temporarily part of the public road to deposit materials
- erect a scaffold in connection with the construction, repair, maintenance, or demolition of buildings
- site a crane and/or other mechanical or mobile lifting platforms
We may grant permission on receipt of the appropriate form(s) and fee.
Please note that payment is required at the time of application. Ensure you have calculated the correct fee and have your payment details ready.
