Political composition of the council

The most recent council-wide elections were held on Thursday 5 May 2022. 

There are 64 members representing the 20 multi-member wards across South Lanarkshire. The current composition is as follows:  

• Scottish National Party - 25
• Labour Party - 25
• Conservative and Unionist Party - 5
• Liberal Democrats – 3
• Independent Group – 2
• Greens - 1
• Reform UK - 2
• Independent - 1
