Larkhall Ward 20 by-election - Thursday 9 July 2026

Notice of Election

  1. An election is to be held for a Councillor to serve in Ward 20 – Larkhall of South Lanarkshire Council. 
  2. Nomination Papers can be obtained from the Election Office, 21 Beckford Street, Hamilton, ML3 0BT and the council’s website at www.southlanarkshire.gov.uk  The Election Office is open for the issue and delivery of Nomination Papers on weekdays from Tuesday 26 May 2026 between 10am and 4pm.
  3. Completed Nomination Papers must be delivered to the Election Office, 21 Beckford Street, Hamilton ML3 0BT by 4pm on Friday 5 June 2026.
  4. If the ward is contested an election will be held and voting will take place between 7am and 10pm on Thursday 9 July 2026.
  5. Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at David Dale House, 45 John Street, Blantyre G72 0AA by Midnight on Tuesday 23 June 2026.  Applications can be made online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Postal or Proxy Voting

  1. Any elector may apply for a postal or proxy vote at this Election.
  2. Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at David Dale House, 45 John Street, Blantyre G72 0AA by 5pm on Wednesday 24 June 2026
  3. Applications to amend or cancel existing proxy arrangements must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at David Dale House, 45 John Street, Blantyre G72 0AA by 5pm on Wednesday 24 June 2026
  4. Applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at David Dale House, 45 John Street, Blantyre G72 0AA by 5pm on Wednesday 1 July 2026
  5. Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election on the grounds of a medical emergency that will prevent a voter from going to the polling station or for work/service reasons must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at David Dale House, 45 John Street, Blantyre G72 0AA by 5pm on Thursday 9 July 2026. The medical emergency must have occurred after 5pm on Wednesday 1 July 2026, or if the medical emergency occurred before 5pm on Wednesday 1 July 2026, the person could not reasonably be expected to apply by 5pm on Wednesday 1 July 2026. To apply on the grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5pm on Wednesday 1 July 2026.
