School support/classroom assistants
Could you encourage children to become successful learners and confident individuals, both in and out of the classroom?
Responsibilities
- Curricular support: Assist individual pupils and small groups with learning activities, reinforcing lessons and supporting differentiated instruction
- Resource preparation: Help prepare and organise learning materials and classroom activities
- Nurturing support: Provide emotional and social support to pupils, fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment
- Complex needs support: Offer in-class and out-of-class assistance to pupils with additional needs, including medical support and personal care
- Medication administration: Safely administer prescribed medicines following school policies
- Pastoral care: Comfort and care for children who are upset or require personal hygiene assistance
- Event assistance: Support pupils during school outings, sports events, and extracurricular activities
- Administrative tasks: Complete clerical duties such as record-keeping, photocopying, and updating pupil files
Essential criteria
- Experience: Prior experience working with children or young people in a formal setting, or transferable skills from other roles (for example, healthcare, youth work, customer service)
- Literacy and numeracy: Demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing, and basic mathematics
- Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing classroom needs and work collaboratively with teaching staff
