Personal licence for managing licensed premises
Who needs a personal licence
If you manage or supervise a place that sells alcohol, you must have a personal licence. This licence lets you authorise alcohol sales and ensure your premises follow the law. You can apply online, renew an existing licence, or contact us for help.
A personal licence costs £50 and lasts 10 years. To get one, you must pass an approved training course.
You need a personal licence if you:
- manage or supervise alcohol sales
- authorise other staff to sell alcohol
The personal licence holder and premises licence holder can be different people, but the premises manager must be told.
