Walking, cycling and horse riding

South Lanarkshire is a diverse place to explore with paths and trails through town and countryside – in woodland, along river gorges and across hills.  There are plenty of places to investigate and enjoy from Cathkin Braes and Cuningar Woodland Park in the north (Rutherglen) to the Southern Upland Way in the south of Clydesdale. The Clyde Walkway is a 65km riverside path which will take you from the centre of Glasgow to the Falls of Clyde at New Lanark.

Being more active by walking or cycling some or all of your journey is a great way to improve your fitness, save money and reduce emissions. Further information on active and sustainable travel options is available via South Lanarkshire's Air Quality Storymap.

For existing and new cyclists Love to Ride South Lanarkshire is a free, online platform which offers support to individuals, workplaces, and communities to ride their bikes. Educational videos, incentives and promotional campaigns with great local and national prizes are available. Become a member and see the benefits cycling can bring to your life.
