South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership Carers Strategy

South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership Carers Strategy | South Lanarkshire Council
TitleSouth Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership Carers Strategy
Council ResourceSocial Work
Service AreaPerformance and Support Services
Aims and ObjectivesThe South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership Carers Strategy is a statutory requirement set out in the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016. The aim of this Equality Impact Assessment is to consider the potential effects of the Carers Strategy on each of the protected characteristics.

The strategy identifies and outlines:
- What is a carer with definitions
- It sets out how the Health and Social Care Partnership will support carers
- The Carers Strategy sets out the policy context of the document
- It iterates carers' rights and local authority duties
- It shows the demographic context and demand and unmet demand for support
- The strategy classifies the four primary carer priorities and recognises the outcomes required to enable the delivery of the three year strategy
- The strategy will drive the delivery of the local authority duties set out in the Act
- It identifies some of the plans and measures that will be put in place
- The strategy lists a range of links to support service providers

The strategy intends to inform stakeholders about the range of supports and services that are delivered through a partnership approach for carers.

The Equality Impact Assessment in its initial draft will be presented and discussed at a Programme Board meeting to identify and clarify its context. A wider consultation on the EQIA will be undertaken through our carer organisations to ensure the views of carers in the locality are taken account of.
ConclusionThere are no negative impacts on the equality groups.

The Equality Impact Assessment in its initial draft will be presented and discussed at a Programme Board meeting to identify and clarify its context. A wider consultation on the EQIA will be undertaken through our carer organisations to ensure the views of carers in the locality are taken account of.

Through the revision of service delivery measures, specific data will be collected that will allow the Health and Social Care Partnership to gather more robust and evidence based data. Future analysis of the returns will support and verify the impact of the strategy in relation to protected characteristics.

The aims of this strategy is set a base line for the development and delivery of services for carers in South Lanarkshire. The Carers Strategy will feed the development of an implementation plan which will be used to assess the activities and actions put in place over the life of the document.

Kinship carers, older carers of adults with a learning disability, parent carers, carers of spouses, condition specific carers and young carers were all involved in a range of various consultations. The priorities and actions for the strategy were identified from the results of all the carer involved consultations.

The strategy will impact on our current service delivery through remodelling the service. It should ensure a more consistent and focussed service that reaches out to a broader range of carers across the localities.
