Trade Unions

South Lanarkshire Council recognises the importance the role of our Trades Union at both a national and local level. We are committed to facilitating regular consultation between the council and the unions which secures the greatest possible measure of joint action for the development and improvement of the work of the council.

In 2002 the Council and Trades Union signed a Partnership Working Agreement which set out their commitment to work together for the benefit of the council and the workforce. This way of working together is based on four common principles of

  • common goals
  • understanding
  • honesty
  • transparency

The Charter has been signed on behalf of the council and Trades Union and both sides remain committed to working together. The Charter will be used to improve the working relationship between managers and Trade Union and gives a framework to allow both sides to move forward, meet the challenges ahead together and continue this beneficial relationship.
