Council Tax - changes to your household

If your household has changed, you might need to update your Council Tax, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction.

Updating your details helps us keep your bill correct and make sure you get the right support.

Moving home

If you are a homeowner or tenant and have already moved, you can tell us:

  • you have moved into South Lanarkshire
  • you have moved out of South Lanarkshire
  • you have moved from one address to another within South Lanarkshire

If you haven't moved yet, please wait until you have as plans can change.

Agents, landlords and solicitors

If you manage a property or act on behalf of someone else, you can report changes using our online forms:

  • agents and landlords: report a change in tenancy
  • solicitors: tell us about a house sale or purchase

Someone has moved in, out or died

If the number of adults in your home has changed, you may need to update your single person discount:

  • If someone has moved in and you now have two or more adults, you can cancel your discount.
  • If someone has moved out or someone has died and you are now the only adult, you can apply for the discount.

If the last person living in a property has died and the home is now empty, use our guidance on empty properties after a death.

To tell us about any other household changes, including someone moving in or out or a death where the home is still occupied, use our household changes form.

Houses in Multiple Occupancy (HMO)

Information is available on our Council Tax and Houses in Multiple Occupancy (HMO) page.

Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction

Please see our Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction page to report any changes.

Evidence you may need to provide

If we’ve asked you for evidence to support your change, you can upload it online, read our guidance on uploading files to online forms.

You can submit evidence using our Council Tax evidence page.
