Bin collections and waste services over the festive period

There will be no bin collections on Thursday 25 December and Friday 26 December 2025 and Thursday 1 January 2026.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday collections will be carried out as normal during Christmas week and New Year week. Thursday and Friday collections the week following Christmas will be carried out two days later than normal and collections on the week following New Year will be carried out one day later than normal.

Please ensure that bins are not overfilled, lids are fully closed and no excess waste is presented beside your bin. If you have excess waste, you can take it to one of our household waste and recycling centres or request a bulk uplift when the service resumes.

Disposal of real Christmas trees

Real Christmas trees can be recycled in various ways throughout South Lanarkshire. Trees being uplifted must be cut into 5ft sections and tied together.

  • We'll collect real Christmas trees placed beside your burgundy food and garden waste bin on your normal burgundy bin collection day between Monday 5 January and Friday 16 January 2026.
  • If you don't have a burgundy bin, request a free Christmas tree uplift for your real Christmas tree. Uplifts can be booked online from Monday 22 December until 2.30pm on Wednesday 31 December. Trees will be uplifted between Monday 5 January and Friday 9 January 2026.

You can also take your real Christmas tree to one of our six Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRC). Please remember that you need to book a slot for all HWRCs.

Household waste and recycling centres

Our household waste and recycling centres will be closed on Christmas Day (Thursday 25 December) and New Year’s Day (Thursday 1 January). Opening times on other days are the same as regular winter opening times. Please remember that you will need to book a slot for all HWRCs.
