Holidays during term time

Important information for parents

We understand the value of family time, but taking children out of school during term time for holidays can have a significant impact on their learning and development. Every day in school matters - even short absences can lead to missed lessons, gaps in understanding, and challenges catching up.

Please note that schools are not required to provide work for children who are absent due to family holidays. While staff may offer support at their discretion, classroom learning and peer interaction cannot be fully replaced.

We strongly encourage families to plan holidays during official school breaks to ensure children benefit from consistent education and make the most of their time in school.

Examples of unauthorised holidays

  • Family holidays taken during term time.
  • Extended weekends or travel days added to official school breaks.
  • Holidays taken due to cheaper travel costs or work schedules.
  • Attending family celebrations or events abroad during school term.
  • Visiting relatives overseas during term time.
  • Taking children out of school for birthdays or surprise trips.
