Greenspace

Greenspace in your area

Greenspaces are the parks, paths and open areas you can use to spend time outdoors, stay active and enjoy nature. We look after many of these spaces across South Lanarkshire and support local communities to improve and care for them. You can explore them, relax in them, and even get involved in making them better.

What counts as greenspace?

Greenspace includes a wide range of outdoor areas, such as:

  • parks, gardens and playing fields
  • woodland and grassed areas
  • children’s play areas and cemeteries
  • allotments
  • walking paths, rivers, canals and old railway lines
  • countryside areas close to towns
  • vacant or derelict land that could be improved

Improving greenspaces

We work with partners to protect and improve greenspaces across the area. Our work helps make places safer, more welcoming and better for wildlife.

Get involved

You can help improve your local greenspace or start your own project. You might:

  • start a community greenspace project
  • set up or join a local action group
  • ask us for advice on planning your ideas

Our Countryside and Greenspace Service can guide you through the next steps and help you get started.
