Council house letting standard
What to expect when you move into your council home
When you move into your new home, you can expect it to be clean, safe, and ready to live in. We have clear standards that every property must meet before you get the keys. These standards make sure your home is comfortable, secure, and in good working order from day one.
Our letting standard
Before we let a property, we check it meets the Scottish housing quality standard. This means your home will:
- be energy efficient
- have modern facilities and services
- be safe, secure, and healthy to live in
- be free from serious disrepair
- meet the minimum legal housing standard
We do these checks to make sure you can settle in quickly and safely.
Information we give you
When you move in, we will give you:
- a tenants’ handbook, explaining your rights and responsibilities
- a tenants’ guide to repairs, showing you how to report problems
- an energy performance certificate for your home
The energy performance certificate shows how energy efficient your home is. It can help you understand likely fuel costs and how your home affects the environment.
If you have concerns
If you think your home does not meet the letting standard when you move in, contact us as soon as possible. We will look into the issue and take action where needed.
