Council house letting standard
What condition your home will be in when you move in
When you move into your council home, it will be clean, safe, and ready to live in. We check every property before you get the keys to make sure it meets our letting standard. This section explains what you can expect in each part of your home.
Cleanliness and finish
Your home will be clean and tidy, with no damp, mould, or pest problems.
You are responsible for decorating inside your home. We will leave existing decoration if it is in good condition. If walls are very dark or wallpaper is damaged, we may offer a decoration pack to help with the cost of materials. In rare cases, we may decorate the property for you.
Doors, windows, and floors
- External doors will be secure, in good working order, and supplied with two sets of keys
- Windows will open and close properly, with locks or restrictors where needed
- Internal doors, skirting boards, and surrounds will be in good condition
- Floors will be safe and in good condition

Your kitchen will have:
- at least six matching units and worktops

- tiled splashbacks
Your bathroom will have:
