Community occupational therapy, equipment and adaptations

If you’re finding daily tasks harder because of mobility, disability, illness or getting older, we can help you stay safe and independent at home. You can get advice, try simple steps yourself, or ask us to assess if you need equipment or adaptations.

Before requesting an assessment, please read the information below so you can get the right support as quickly as possible.

What you can do now

Many people can manage early or lower‑level needs by trying simple changes or buying basic equipment. This is often the fastest way to stay safe at home.

You can use AskSara, our free online self‑assessment tool, for personalised advice and recommended products.

You can also find information on mobility aids, walking equipment, wheelchairs and disabled parking bays on our related pages.

When we can assess you

We aim to support everyone, but we must focus our occupational therapy service on people with immediate or serious risks. If your needs are urgent, you can complete our online self‑referral form. A member of our team will review your referral and contact you with advice or next steps.

If your needs are not urgent, we will ask you to explore self‑management options first. This helps avoid delays and ensures those most at risk get support quickly.

Other places that can help

Care and Repair in Lanarkshire can help older and disabled people with small repairs, ramps, rails and general home safety improvements.

Fire and smoke alarms

All homes in Scotland must have interlinked fire alarms. Guidance, videos and BSL clips are available on the Scottish Fire and Rescue website and the Scottish Government website.

You can also contact local retailers, national charities and advice agencies for equipment, financial help or guidance on benefits and grants. Relative contact information and links can be found on our Signposting and support information page.

If you believe your needs are urgent, complete our referral form. You can also contact your local social work office for advice.

British Sign Language users can contact us through Contact Scotland's video relay service.
