Telecare
Telecare support at home
Telecare is a set of simple alarms and sensors that help you stay safe and well at home. If you need help, you can call for assistance at any time. It also gives your family and loved ones peace of mind, knowing you are safe.
How could Telecare help you?
Telecare can help if you live with dementia, are worried about falling, or if your carer cannot be with you all the time. Many people tell us it helps them stay in their own home with more confidence. Carers also say they feel more relaxed knowing support is there.
How Telecare works
Telecare equipment is easy to use. You can press an alarm button yourself, or a sensor can alert us automatically.
Your alarm connects to our Alarm Receiving Centre, where staff are available every hour of the day, all year round. When an alert comes in, we speak to you through the alarm unit. We may phone your family or carer, or send a responder to your home.
Some alarms and sensors can also alert a family member through a pager instead of contacting our centre.
Types of Telecare equipment
Telecare alarm
Press the button at any time to speak to one of our call service assistants.
Telecare pendant
Wear it on your wrist or around your neck. Press it to call for help whenever you need it.
Fall detector
Worn on your wrist. It alerts us automatically if you have a heavy fall.
Smoke sensor, heat sensor and carbon monoxide sensor
These sound an alarm and connect you to us automatically. We will contact the emergency services when needed.
Bed or chair sensors, motion sensors and door contacts
These let a carer or family member know when you are up, moving around or leaving a room.
Pager
Alerts someone in your home when you need help.
Where do I go for more information?
If you think Telecare could help you, contact your local social work office.
There is a small weekly cost for the community alarm service. No cost is made for any additional telecare or telecare linked only to a pager.
