How to avoid getting a parking ticket

Parking attendants

Council parking attendants can issue parking tickets (penalty charge notices) to vehicles parked:

  • on yellow lines
  • in pedestrian areas
  • in residents' parking areas
  • in disabled parking spaces without a badge and
  • in car parks without a valid Pay and Display ticket

They do not have powers to take action against obstructive or inconsiderate parking, where there are no yellow lines. This is the responsibility of the police.

If you are concerned about obstructive parking you should contact Police Scotland by phoning their 101 helpline number for non-emergency enquiries or see Police Scotland Contact us.
