Drugs and driving

Driving under the influence of drugs can result in serious consequences and the punishments can be severe.

Reactions include lack of concentration, disorientation, over confidence, aggressiveness and lack of awareness, resulting in an increased likelihood of causing an accident.

You may not always know whether or not a medicine will affect your driving. To find out if it is safe to drive whilst taking particular medicines please check the label/instructions or consult your pharmacist or doctor.

Do not drive if you have been drinking alcohol with prescribed or over-the-counter medicines. Even a small amount of alcohol taken with medicine can affect your driving skills.

You should also check the labels of any prescription and over-the-counter medicines you take to make sure you are still safe to drive.
