Litter, bins and street sweeping

What we are doing

We work every day to keep South Lanarkshire clean and safe. We regularly pick up litter, sweep public areas with mechanical sweepers and remove fly‑posting from council‑owned land. Town centres and other busy spots are cleaned more often to deal with the growing amount of dropped food waste and packaging.

We generally do not clean areas we do not own, such as industrial estates, motorways or privately‑owned land, including Hamilton Retail Park.

Rapid response teams

Our rapid response teams deal with urgent issues. They remove dangerous items such as needles and broken glass, and respond quickly to environmental crimes like fly‑tipping.

Working with the community

We work with schools, local groups, volunteers and our own employees to raise awareness and gather feedback from residents. By involving people in local projects, we aim to:

  • encourage pride in the community
  • help people feel safer
  • improve the local environment
  • support groups and individuals who want to tackle problem areas

We will always support residents and community groups who want to make a positive difference in their area.
