Understand preference profile report data

Preference profile reports show how people ranked candidates in local government elections. They help you see how votes were cast and counted.

At the start, the report tells you how many candidates stood and how many councillors were elected. Each line then shows how a group of voters ranked the candidates. The number at the start of the line is how many voters used that exact order.

For example, a line showing 71 voters means 71 people chose the same ranking, starting with their first and second preferences.

At the end of the report, you will see the full list of candidates in ballot paper order.

The figure '0' means that there were no more preferences given to any candidate by voters who used this sequence. The final '0' on the last line shows that the report has finished and no more sequences were used.Diagram showing voter preferences
