Procurement and the council
Community benefits in council contracts
When the council procure goods, services or works, we may ask the successful supplier to give something back to support the local community. These are called Community Benefit and include a number of themes such as jobs, apprenticeships, training, support for schools, and help for local community groups. We agree what will be delivered as part of the contract and monitor its progress.
How community benefits are agreed
For some contracts, suppliers choose from our community benefit menu and tell us what they will deliver if they are awarded the contract. We score these community benefits and include them in the contract. For some projects, we may also ask for specific benefits. Projects funded through the Glasgow City Region City Deal use the City Deal community benefits menu.
Our priorities:
- jobs, apprenticeships, work experience and training
- supporting local businesses and the local supply chain
- education, careers talks and learning opportunities
- support for local communities through our community benefits hub
- improvements to local places and the environment
Community benefits hub: ask for support in your area
The community benefits hub encourages local community groups in South Lanarkshire to ask for practical help from suppliers who work with us, such asking for volunteers, materials, equipment, or support for a local project.
Community groups can add requests to the community benefits hub for suppliers to answer as part of their community benefits.
Suppliers: what happens after you win a contract
Our Community Benefits Officer will contact you at the start of your contract to agree on what you will deliver and by when.
If you need to change what you agreed to deliver, speak to the Community Benefits Officer. Your Contract Manager will also be involved before anything is changed.
We monitor what is delivered
We record and report community benefits using an online system called Cenefits. We will set up an initial meeting and add your agreed benefits and delivery dates to the system. We will then monitor your community benefits delivery across your contact via Cenefits.
Cenefits emails you when a benefit is due. You then upload your evidence. Your Contract Manager reviews it and lets you know if anything needs to be updated.
