Preparing your community for an emergency

Hot weather can cause heatstroke and heat exhaustion, with serious consequences if not treated quickly. Being exposed to the sun for too long can also cause painful sunburn. Look out for neighbours or relatives who may be at risk during a heatwave. Try to visit them regularly, and ask them if they have the support they need.

The Met Office website provides advice for staying safe and well in hot weather and some top tips to help keep your pets safe too.

The Ready Scotland website also provides tips on staying safe in hot weather and what you can do to help prevent the risk of wildfires.

If you see a fire outdoors, however small, call 999 immediately. Follow advice from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Water Safety Scotland provides information on staying safe in the water this summer.

Scottish Water lists things we can all do to save water all year round, which is good for the planet and your pocket.
