School lunches
Food pledge
Our food pledge explains what you can expect from school meals served in South Lanarkshire. It sets out our commitment to providing fresh, safe and nutritious food for children every school day, prepared by trained catering staff in our schools.
We believe parents and carers should feel confident in the food their child eats at school. This pledge shows how we source ingredients, prepare meals and support healthy eating.
- Our dishes are freshly prepared daily in schools by our accredited catering staff.
- We will continuously endeavour to increase the amount of farm assured and red tractor food we use.
- Our meals are free from undesirable additives and trans fats with no genetically modified ingredients.
- All our milk comes from Scottish farms and our meat can be traced back to a Scottish or UK Farm.
- All menus are planned using seasonal produce.
- We do not serve any endangered fish due to the fish we procure being MSC accredited.
- We put in place measures to continuously reduce food waste and packaging to meet the council’s sustainability targets.
- We train our catering employees to provide food and health guidance and become actively involved in food education activities.
- We developed an information platform on the council’s website providing menus, nutritional content and allergen information.
- Our Kids Kitchen classes will teach and Inspire pupils to learn lifelong cookery skills, knowledge and confidence to cook simple healthy nutritious meals
