Kids Kitchen cookery classes

Go Fresh Kids Kitchen

Go Fresh Kids Kitchen cookery classes teach primary school children how to prepare simple, healthy meals which they can then continue to do at home. Our cookery classes take place in schools and give pupils practical skills they can use every day. Kids Kitchen cookery classes links to Curriculum for Excellence outcomes and the Food and Drink in Schools (Scotland) Regulations 2020.

Our Go Fresh Kids Kitchen chef visits primary schools to show pupils how to cook nutritious food using affordable, everyday ingredients. The focus is on building confidence in the kitchen and helping children understand how to make healthier food choices. Parents and carers have the opportunity to attend on the fourth week of the programme to participate with their child.

What pupils learn

During the classes, pupils learn how to:

  • prepare simple meals safely
  • use basic cooking skills
  • make healthier choices
  • understand where food comes from

The recipes are designed to be practical, so pupils can help prepare meals at home for the whole family.

How the classes work

We deliver Kids Kitchen cookery classes during the school day. Sessions are hands‑on and designed to work alongside learning already taking place in school.

The classes support learning around food, health and wellbeing and meet school food rules. Pupils take part in a fun, supportive environment where they can learn by doing.
