Biodiversity

Biodiversity simply means the variety of all life on earth. It includes all plants, animals, microbes, the places where they live - and even us! All these things together give us many benefits without us even noticing:

• clean air
• water
• food
• energy
• medicine
• jobs
• places to live

We need all the different kinds of life around us in order to survive. Unfortunately our biodiversity is under threat from factors including climate change and development. The South Lanarkshire Nature Emergency Declaration report reinforces the body of evidence which outlines the extent of the global crisis and highlights our current approach with guidance from the Scottish Biodiversity Delivery plan 2024 to 2030.
