Building warrants, forms and regulations
Certificates of completion
When your building work is finished, you must submit a completion certificate for acceptance.
You can complete and submit it online using eBuildingStandards Scotland.
The certificate of completion confirms that the work has been carried out in line with the approved building warrant and plans.
If required, you must also provide a certificate of compliance for electrical work. This must be completed by a competent person, such as a qualified electrician.
Before we accept the certificate, we will inspect the work. If no issues are found, we aim to accept or reject the completion certificate within 14 days.
Acceptance of a completion certificate
You must not occupy a building, or part of a building, until we have accepted the completion certificate.
You will also need the building warrant and accepted completion certificate if you sell the property. You should keep these documents in a safe place.
We record all completion certificate decisions on the Building Standards Register.
Copies of certificates of completion
If you need a copy of an existing certificate of completion, please make a request using our form.
