Exhibition: The Dutch Don’t Forget – The Cameronians in the British Liberation Army

The Dutch Don't Forget exhibition at Low Parks Museum

Standing outside the entrance to Low Parks Museum is a simple, bronze memorial plaque on a polished granite plinth that bears the words “The Dutch Don’t Forget”. The plaque was presented to veterans of the 52nd (Lowland) Division, a Scottish, Territorial Army formation that played a vital part in the liberation of the Netherlands in the final stages of the Second World War. The message is simple, the Dutch will never forget the sacrifices made by the men of the 52nd (Lowland) Division in freeing them from Nazi oppression.

Two battalions of The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) proudly fought in the Dutch campaign in the Second World War. The 6th Battalion, historically covering the county of Lanarkshire, and the 7th Battalion, drawn mainly from the south side of the city of Glasgow.

This commemorative exhibition highlights the part played by these two battalions, as part of the 52nd (Lowland) Division, in this pivotal stage of the Second World War.

Free entry, open Tuesday to Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm.

Hot off the heels of their sold-out 2024 tour, The Naked Neds are back! Get ready for a rollercoaster of laughter, tears, and maybe a few awkward moments with Paul, Jamie, Tony, Harry, and Bev!

‘The Naked Neds’ follows a group of Glasgow lads as they navigate the turbulent aftermath of their best friend’s suicide. In a world where politicians’ expenses seem to matter more than NHS waiting lists, they decide to take matters into their own hands. After a string of failed fundraising attempts and just when their lives couldn’t get any more complicated, one of the boys finds a lump, throwing their plans - and everything else - into a whole new perspective and they realise there’s only one thing they can do; take their clothes off!

Absolute Elvis

World renowned Johnny Lee Memphis, the JLM band, the Memphis Belles, come together to produce this explosive and dynamic interpretation of Elvis live in concert: The Absolute Elvis Show.

Elvis was Johnny’s very first inspiration. As a small boy Johnny would passionately watch all of Elvis’s movies and listen to his songs. Through the motivation and love of Elvis, his Aunt Helen started Johnny singing along and dancing the moves. All for family entertainment at the tender age of only 3. Johnny’s home grown musical talent has since taken him far and wide.

Paying homage to the King since 2004, he is absolutely one of the best Elvis tribute artists in the business. His craft has led him to work in countries such as Canada, USA, China, Australia, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Germany, and of course the Mecca for all Elvis tribute artists as he has performed directly across from Graceland in Memphis Tennessee, USA.

His career has also led him to meet and work with people who knew Elvis personally. To quote two of Johnny’s favourite critiques about his performance:

“Johnny is doing Elvis proud, when you meet him it’s like you’ve met your new best friend just like it was with Elvis” - Charles Stones (Elvis’s tour manager)

“Boy, you sure brought back a lot of great memories for me with what you just done on that stage” - Sam Thompson (Elvis’ bodyguard and close friend)

Available to book online or by calling Rutherglen Town Hall on 0141 613 5700.

Cost: £26.00 (subject to £1.50 transaction fee)
