Reuse and recycle

Batteries

Domestic batteries

Mobile phones, laptops, cameras and electric toys all contain batteries. These batteries can contain hazardous chemicals like nickel and cadmium and should not be disposed of in any of your household bins.

See how to dispose of small domestic batteries safely and find out where your nearest recycling point is.

Car batteries

Car batteries are hazardous and must be stored safely in special containers.

You can take old car batteries to all six main household waste and recycling centres for free disposal. They are taken to a licensed contractor who reclaims the lead and plastic for use in new batteries.
