District councils
You can explore a wide range of district council records from before South Lanarkshire Council was created in 1996. These records cover Clydesdale, East Kilbride, Glasgow (including Rutherglen and Cambuslang) and Hamilton. They can help you research local history, housing, planning, community services and how your area developed over time.
Most district council records are held at the Archives and Records Centre. Some records for Glasgow District Council and Strathclyde Regional Council are held by Glasgow City Archives.
