Repossession and bankruptcy

If your property has been repossessed by your mortgage lender, or the ownership has passed to a trustee in bankruptcy, you may be entitled to a 100% Council Tax exemption.

For bankruptcy cases, all of the following must apply:

  • the property is empty
  • it is owned by the person who is bankrupt
  • it is not anyone’s main home
  • a permanent trustee has an interest in the property
  • no one else is liable for Council Tax
