Crisis and community care grants
Community care grants
Community care grants can help people leaving care, hospital or prison to live on their own, or to remain in their own home without having to go into care. These grants can also help families facing exceptional pressures.
A community care grant may also help if you are struggling to provide a safe and secure home for your family. For example, you might need help to get essential household items like a cooker or washing machine but don't have the money to buy them. The fund cannot sustain replacing items due to wear and tear.
You will be given goods rather than cash if you are awarded a community care grant. Delivery and installation is included. Cash will only be given in the rare situation where we can't source a specific item.
We will carry out checks to make sure you need the items applied for. These checks can include:
- getting information from other departments and agencies involved in representing you or helping you with your application
- carrying out home visits before an award is made
To find out if you are eligible to apply for a community care grant, or to apply, please phone the Scottish Welfare Fund Team using the details shown. Advisors applying on behalf of a client or those who find it difficult to use the phone can apply online.
