You've bin tagged

Why has my recycling bin not been emptied?

If we notice that your recycling wheeled bin has items that shouldn't be there, we will put a red tag on the bin handle. If you get a red tag we will not empty it. You should remove the items and put them in your black or green household waste bin or take them to one of our waste and recycling centres. You should then put your recycling bin out on its next collection day.

A valid garden waste permit is required for garden waste to be collected from your burgundy bin. Bins containing garden waste without a permit will not be emptied.

Check what items we take in each of the recycling bins:

Why has my black/green bin not been emptied?

There are circumstances where we may be unable to empty your non-recyclable (black/green) waste bin, and we may tag your bin. These include:

  • The bin is overfull and unsafe for our crews to empty. In this case, remove the excess waste from the top of your bin until the lid closes fully and re-present your bin on the next scheduled collection day. You can also dispose of excess waste at any of our six Household Waste and Recycling Centres or request a bulk uplift.

  • The bin is damaged and unsafe for our crews to empty. In this case, please request a replacement bin. Details can be found on the Non-recyclable waste bin page. We will only replace non-recyclable (black/green) waste bins free of charge if the bin has been damaged during the emptying process.

  • If you present excess waste beside your bin, we will not uplift it. Please take excess waste to your local Household Waste and Recycling Centre or request a bulk uplift.

  • We will empty one non-recyclable (black/green) waste bin per property only. If you continue to present more than one, we may remove the additional bin(s).
