Council Tax - exemptions and discounts (occupied properties)
Low income
Council Tax Reduction
You can apply for Council Tax Reduction if you’re on a low income.
We work out the amount you can get by looking at:
- your earnings
- any benefits or tax credits you receive
- the circumstances of the other people who live with you
This reduction applies to your Council Tax only. It does not reduce your water and waste water charges.
For more information, see our Council Tax Reduction page.
Second adult reduction
If you don’t qualify for the single person discount because another adult lives with you, you may still get money off your bill.
You can get a reduction of 7.5%, 15% or 25% if the other adult:
- is on a low income, or
- receives certain benefits
We do not look at your income for this reduction. Second adult reduction does not apply to water and waste water charges.
For more information, see our Second Adult Reduction page
