Morgaine’s story

My name is Morgaine and my big brother, Conrad, is on the autistic spectrum.

In August 2013 I began S6 in high school. One of the first things I did was ask one of my teachers to help me to organise support for young people who have brothers and sisters with special needs.

All of my life my brother’s needs have had to come first. From a very early age I have had to teach myself to be independent and self-sufficient resulting in me being older than my actual years. Now I am seventeen and more mature than I was in S1 I can see I have benefited from having to grow up too soon and that is why I feel a responsibility to support other young people who are in the same kind of situation.

Undertaking this project is giving me peace of mind that young people in difficult situations are being put first.

I have given an insight into my life and I hope others will benefit from this project.
