Registered tenants organisations
This page explains what a registered tenants organisation is, why registration can be helpful, and how tenant groups in South Lanarkshire can take part.
What is a registered tenants organisation
A registered tenants organisation is a tenants or residents association that meets national criteria set by Scottish Ministers. Registration confirms that the group is properly set up, represents local tenants, and works in an open and inclusive way.
Tenant and residents associations do not have to register. Registration is optional, and unregistered groups can still operate and represent their area.
Who can apply
Any tenants or residents association within South Lanarkshire can apply to become registered. This applies to new groups and groups that already exist.
If your group is thinking about registering, we can help you understand what is involved and support you through the process.
Why register your group
Some groups choose to register because it can:
- strengthen your group’s voice when discussing housing services
- help show that your group represents local tenants
- support involvement in consultations and service changes
- bring clarity about how your group works
We can explain the benefits in more detail so you can decide what is right for your group.
