Customer involvement
Start a tenants and residents association
Setting up a tenants and residents association helps people in your area speak with one voice. It gives you a clear way to raise local issues, share information, and work with us and other organisations to improve services where you live.
Why set up an association
A local association can help you and your neighbours:
- tackle issues that matter in your area
- represent local views when dealing with us or other organisations
- help shape changes to housing services and neighbourhood improvements
- share news, advice, and updates with other residents
Associations help make sure local voices are heard and taken seriously.
How to get started
Starting an association is simpler than you might think:
- talk to neighbours to see if they are interested
- share the idea in places people visit, such as shops, libraries, or community centres
- if there is interest, invite everyone to a public meeting
- hold the meeting in a convenient local venue to talk about priorities and whether to form a formal group
At the meeting, you can agree on what matters most to people and how you want the group to work.
Support and funding available
We offer help to both new and existing tenants and residents associations. Support includes:
- help with leaflets, posters, and other publicity
- admin support, such as agendas, invites, and notes
- support to organise meetings and events
Financial help is also available, including:
- start‑up grants for new groups
- yearly grants to help with running costs
- one‑off grants for specific activities or events
The South Lanarkshire Tenant Development Support Project (SLTDSP) can also help groups get started, grow stronger, and build skills through advice, training, and resources.
