Homelessness
Temporary accommodation if you are homeless
If you have applied as homeless and have nowhere safe to stay, we will offer you temporary accommodation. This gives you a place to stay while we work with you to resolve your situation.
Types of accommodation
We provide different types of temporary accommodation across South Lanarkshire, including:
- emergency accommodation (first stop): rooms or flats with shared facilities and staff available 24 hours a day
- supported accommodation: self-contained rooms or flats with on-site support
- furnished flats or houses: self-contained homes
You can choose to accept this offer or arrange your own place to stay, such as with family or friends.
Costs and rent
You may need to pay rent, depending on your circumstances. We will explain the cost and how to pay before you move in.
Choosing where you stay
We try to offer accommodation that suits your needs and preferred area. However, this is not always possible. Our priority is to make sure you have somewhere safe to stay quickly.
If you need to move away from your children’s school, we can help with travel costs.
How long you will stay
You will usually stay in temporary accommodation until:
- we offer you a permanent home, or
- your housing situation is resolved
Your belongings
You can bring essentials like clothes and toiletries.
You should arrange storage for larger items, such as furniture. If you cannot do this, we can arrange storage for you through an approved provider. There will be a charge, which we will explain in advance.
